Who We Are?

Consultant Ophthalmologist in London

Mr Radwan Almousa MD, FRCOphth, CertLRS

Mr Radwan Almousa is a highly trained anterior segment surgeon with specialist expertise in corneal disease, refractive surgery, and eyelid (oculoplastic) surgery.

He completed an advanced oculoplastic fellowship in Singapore at the internationally renowned National University Hospital, gaining extensive experience in eyelid and peri-ocular surgery. He then returned to the UK to undertake further specialist training in corneal and refractive surgery at Queen Victoria Hospital, one of the leading centres for eye care in the country.

Through this broad and rigorous training, Mr Almousa developed a strong passion for treating diseases of the front of the eye, with a particular focus on applying the latest evidence-based treatments to improve visual quality and relieve discomfort that can significantly affect patients’ daily lives. He is currently a part-time Consultant in Corneal and Oculoplastic Surgery at Great Western Hospital, where he provides specialist NHS care.

During the later years of his training, Mr Almousa focused on refining his expertise in ptosis surgery, including the management of congenital ptosis, as well as mastering upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty techniques. His approach combines precision, safety, and a strong appreciation of both functional and aesthetic outcomes.

Since his appointment to his current NHS consultant post, Mr Almousa has introduced several advanced surgical procedures to the department, including DMEK and DALK corneal grafts, expanding treatment options for patients with corneal disease. He was also among the early adopters in London of SMILE laser refractive surgery, offering patients a minimally invasive procedure with rapid recovery and minimal discomfort.

Mr Almousa has extensive experience in the management of keratoconus and established the Keratoconus Pathway at My-iClinic, ensuring structured, personalised care for affected patients. He was the first surgeon in the UK to introduce CAIRS (Corneal Allograft Intrastromal Ring Segments) and FLI (Femtosecond Lenticule Implantation) procedures, significantly expanding treatment options for patients with keratoconus and helping improve visual outcomes where traditional treatments may be limited.

Mr Almousa contributed to the ophthalmic knowledge, and he published 18 articles in peer-reviewed journals covering different aspects of cornea and oculoplastic disease. Also he presented his work in various international meeting worldwide.

We offer a full range of advanced procedures, from routine eye exams to specialized surgeries, all tailored to meet your unique needs and ensure the highest standards of care.
The oculoplastic and lacrimal system encompasses medical and surgical care of the eyelids, tear ducts, and surrounding facial structures. Oculoplastic surgery addresses cosmetic and reconstructive issues of the eyelids and eye socket, while the lacrimal system focuses on tear production and drainage. Conditions treated include drooping eyelids, eye socket injuries, dry eye, and blocked tear ducts.
Keratoconus (KC) is a progressive corneal ectasia and weakening with onset typically in the second decade of life. As keratoconus progresses, irreversible visual loss occurs as the result of increasing irregular corneal astigmatism, and the quality of life declines in patients.
ICL, also known as the Implantable Collamer or Contact Lens, is a type of refractive procedure to help correct the most common visual problems, myopia (short sightedness), hyperopia (long sightedness) and astigmatism. Simply put, ICL is a removable lens implant that is an attractive alternative to LASIK and other refractive procedures.
Are you considering laser eye surgery to correct your near-sightedness? As well as LASIK and LASEK, there is also the option for a laser procedure called SMILE. Small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) is a femtosecond laser-assisted refractive procedure for the treatment of short-sightedness (myopia) and blurry vision (astigmatism). Here, one of our expert ophthalmologists Mr Radwan Almousa explains how it works and just how precise that the procedure is.
